SOHO Lobby / Woodwall

Duluth Timber Company

The SOHO WOOD WALL is comprised of Douglas fir remnants recycled from a lumber yard that salvages wood from old warehouse buildings across the United States. Each piece was composed and intentionally placed on the wall to create a series of relationships and compositions involving negative space, depth, and scale in a way that makes apparent the unique attributes in the wood.

In the spirit of the SOHO building and the process of its renovation {where portions of the original materials & structure are left as-is or sandblasted to expose the raw materials used in its original construction} the SOHO WOOD WALL celebrates the honesty and beauty of the {300 yr old} pieces of wood - whether through natural aging or through markings and cuttings left behind by industry. The wall is metaphorical of the changes that occur over the course of the life of a tree. At this stage, the Reclaimed Douglas fir remnants are intentionally left raw and without further "finishing" to allow it to age and wear without hindrance.
